PurifyEvil - Warcraft 3 Reversed

Greetings, everyone! This is Mentilar, and today I want to present to you the Reversed campaign Path of the Damned, where I’ve tried to create an engaging gameplay experience for you by letting you play as the enemies.

What's new?

1. I've taken into account some mistakes from my previous campaigns and tried not to repeat them here.

2. I've added a new difficulty level called 'Mutators,' similar to Starcraft II, where you can test your skills with new challenges. However, I don't recommend enabling them on your first playthrough.
319271-97669090d86b909f903057a8cb350207.png

3. I've expanded all the possible races you encounter in the chapters to add replayability to the missions.

We've been going around in circles with the same campaigns for over 20 years, what else can be done about the purging prince? Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it's quality content. I just think I've gotten old and grumpy :ogre_hurrhurr: But since I had to install version 2.0 for some things, since I'm here I'll give it a try and maybe I'll get a pleasant surprise :ogre_haosis:

Regards.

so overall i freaking love this and its really well done.

Only issue I had was when I was given a choice mid mission the cursor seem to disappear. For example on chapter 2 I had no issue when selecting which paladin to use or the difficulty/modifier, but after completing the side mission my cursor went away when choosing an option. It also happened at the of the chapter as well. I tried this with both reforge/classic graphics so idk if its that or just wc3 being weird

Fortification Enchant requires a Fortress from the lumber mill for elven faction

Thank you. I'll wix the research issue. But idk how to fix cursor problem, because i'm too stupid.

I've been very excited to play this reverse campaign after the first 2 great ones which I soooo much enjoyed!.
I haven't finished the whole campaign, but I've encountered 2 issues.
Skipping a cutscene might break the game, causing dialog to be played during play. this issue is easy to find in mission 3.
Not sure if this is relevant to this project, but trees on Classic and Classic HD look strange. had to set environment to Reforged to make them look normal.

I will fix this bug. As for the trees, I don't know what the problem is.

I loved your Reverse campaigns (even I played them on Hard for literally no reason). I already like this one - for myself, "Easy" difficulty gives vibes of Normal difficulty: not so easy (in contrast to how it is named), but fair play at least to play with mutators - however from what I saw some mutators are not so fair, even on easy.
Will update this humble "review" after finishing the whole campaign.

I've completed it on normal and i'm mostly satisfied with this campaign as i envisioned it be way back some years ago. Lots of units/abilities/factions to play with and the dialogue is still in good quality except the captain in first chapter. Only 2 bugs I've encountered throughout the campaign was the missing mouse icon during option select and the victory cut scene bugging out "under the burning sky" chapter.

I'm not really fond with new attack mouse icons for the first 2 chapters as i find it disorientating and would miss clicks because of it.
I also think "under the burning sky" chapter could use some improvements. Although i did like the two factions you get to play with and the ending, I didn't find the game play and pacing was climatic enough for a final chapter. I would like to discuss about if you are interested.

Once again i'm REALLY thankful that this campaign was made.

Thought I would add some notes I wrote down from when I replayed this campaign:

Really good campaign background screen and music.

Ch1
Mutilators are cool and make it more challenging. They are also very creative with different ones on different missions.
Killed Arthas with mass Milita at the gold mine, he never got past that final gate.
Once the Undead take over the village, at the spot of top right where some acolytes used to be in cages, there are bandits there, standing and facing the Undead but not doing anything.
Very cool escape twist.
Maybe have a warning to show the captain is losing per second, since I took time at first to look at the map and didn't realize there was a "time limit".

Ch2
First part was very intense. If you can survive the first 7 minutes, then the mass gold from the farms will win the game for you.
I cannot mount horses, even though I moved that unit near the 4 horses next to Uther's spot.
Teal paladin hero never revives.
There is nothing for my workers to target to repair the bridge. Edit: Never mind, I didn't realize we need to run through Arthas' base to get there.
Gavinrad leveled up when killing my forces as I attacked him.
Very cool you gave choices for how to deal with Gavinrad.
The boss fight very well designed.
You even had the Undead horse there in boss fight since Arthas was dismounted.

Ok, fantastic, so there are rewards to playing with Mutilators (Burning Legion secret item choice)? (Guess this is because I had mutilators on).

Ch3
Yay, items cross over from other chapters even though heroes are different. That really gives incentive to find everything on each map.
I think Arthas picked up the scepter item as reward for purifying the fountain, because I left it there, and then it was not there when I returned (he attacked some of my men near the fountain).
You put a lot of efforts into these cinematics. They are really good.
Unobtainable research at the lumbermill.

Ch4
Vial of cloudy poison assassin skill description is hilarious.

Ch5
Ok, I like the explanations for why characters do what they do, like Sylvanas is staying at her outer base to protect injured elves, and that's why she didn't go straight to the capital.
Alomir quest only triggered for me after I went there after doing the other side quests; before, Sylvanas was unable to trigger her.

Bonus chapter:
Ok, I died, mission ended as intended?

Ch6
Red can only build 1 black dragon.
Lol, choosing to play as the Undead just sends you to normal campaign.
I killed the acolytes and main base with mass flyers, then slowly the orc allies wore them down.
I liked having an ally Undead for this in the second part.
Lots of effort put into this map since each clan can be chosen.

Ch7
As soon as I saw the no vision of allies as part of the mutilator, I quit. Seeing AI allies is the best part of RTS campaigns for me.

General Points
Huge amount of effort put into this campaign. I would not consider this an edit of the blizzard campaign because of how different it is.
Was lots of fun to play.

Hello tulee! Thank you for your post!

1. 'Once the Undead take over the village, at the spot of top right where some acolytes used to be in cages, there are bandits there, standing and facing the Undead but not doing anything.' - if you approach them they will start fighting

2. 'Maybe have a warning to show the captain is losing per second, since I took time at first to look at the map and didn't realize there was a "time limit".' - the captain bleeds all the time and I thought people would figure it out

3. 'I cannot mount horses, even though I moved that unit near the 4 horses next to Uther's spot.' - You can train horses in farm building.

4. 'Teal paladin hero never revives.' - ? What does it mean?

5. 'Ok, fantastic, so there are rewards to playing with Mutilators (Burning Legion secret item choice)? (Guess this is because I had mutilators on).' - Nah, Mutators is just difficult for players

6. 'Ok, I died, mission ended as intended?' - Yes

7. Red can only build 1 black dragon. - Yes, its fine

ADDITIONAL NECESSARY INFORMATION
  • A credits list in the map thread description is required where the names of the resource (models, skins, icons, spells, sound etc.) authors are mentioned along with the specific resource. It would be a luxury to have links leading to the used resources. Credits in the Quest Log would be appreciated too.
  • A detailed changelog in the first post would be helpful to reviewers and notify fans about the newest implementations to your map.
  • Map thread tags are important. Please use those that fit and not more or none.

How do I defeat Arthas with Uther at the end of chapter 2? Seems undoable by a really large margin...
Either way, regardless of whether Uther dies or I use cheats to kill Arthas, the quest (and the chapter) doesn't end. I'm stuck.

I am yet to start playing this campaign, it looks promising and fun gameplay-wise, although there's one thing that's bothering me in all those "reversed" campaigns for Warcraft and Starcraft: there are too many AI-controlled allies. We often start with the map mostly visible and mostly controlled by our aliies which then have to be artifically weakened so that the "player" is a challenge. Wouldn't it be better if e.g. in mission 03 the allied High Elven bases be completely or partially removed or replaced by more Undead bases? That would make gameplay more satisfying and more natural, with more space for expansion, fighting for map control etc.

Your idea is good, honestly. But I'm mainly aiming for the original and the player who will play for the first time will not understand why all his allies died.

Why would he expect them to be there in the first place? In the original map he never sees them all at once (unless he types iseedeadpeople), he slowly expands, uncovers and destroys their bases one by one. That's a more natural mission flow. He also uncovers various secondary locations on the map.

Here he sees 2-3 allied bases at once, but they feel generic, they lack unique dialogs about their role in the map, they have no unique heroes with part in the story - at least that's how it looked like in most previous reversed projects I played or saw on YT.

Instead you could e.g. leave one ally with a new custom hero, an outlying outpost calling for help, and add a secondary objective to save that base. There's plenty of ways to design those missions to feel more natural. Lorewise it's also easy to explain the change in dialogs - e.g. Sylvanas arrives with reinforcements when Arthas has already destroyed outlying elven bases and she's now trying to regain initiative.

Another approach would be to change some offensive missions into defensive ones - our allies' role would be to slow down the enemy advance until e.g. Sylvanas seals the gates.

A very creative campaign (just like your others) I’m currently in the campaign, about 3 hours in, playing and trying to do everything possible! It’s very well done, and although I liked the additions, I hope Sylvanas dies (just like in the original story; I believe everyone would want that, I hate this character) Overall, it’s a great campaign that I’m really enjoying so far. 🙂

I think chapter 3 is good where it is right now. However if I were to make it more challenging with no significant changes I would want Arthas to be able expand his base on a conquered outpost and have his army count increased slightly for every outpost he destroys. His timing attacks should be shortened as well in the beginning so he's more likely able to destroy an outpost before the player can do anything.

Speaking of aiming for the originality, i would like to talk about the last chapter. There are 3 things missing from the original chapter. There were 3 factions attacking the summoning ritual but we only got 2 factions that are active. Even then, your ally's hero sits in base the whole time.
Secondly Arthas doesn't receive his reinforcements from the burning legion.
Lastly there is no all out attack from the human side in the last 2 minutes to convey the desperation and climatic side of the chapter which i think is very important.

This is a long shot but i think you could a add cameo appearance of a certain human hero for the last chapter. He's been very popular for the last 2 month on youtube and the fans will most likely love it. It would be a good chance to capitalize on his popularity to help boost player numbers of your campaign.

Another week, another great campaign to keep my company on a cold January. Just like the previous two, this reversed campaign is greatly done. All the new features that were introduced are well-implemented, which makes the campaign more interesting to play, although sometimes it feels a bit overwhelming. The difficulty system is ok, I played on a Normal difficulty and it was enjoyable. Just like author said, I haven't applied Mutators as it was my first time playing the reversed roles of races, so I needed to get to know the chapters first before I dive into the new difficulty level.
There are many improvements as opposed to the previous two campaigns, such as the endings of every chapter, more secondary quests, A LOT of custom units, etc. I am surprised to see the AI is working great with no bugs regarding the AI's behavior at all. Great job with this!

However, there are certain flaws I found while playing the campaign, which I will expose in the following spoiler message:
- Lovar's Pendant is written on Russian;

- In chapter two, Arthas's interface on the command card is changed with the model of a regular Death Knight undead hero;

- The cinematic in which Arthas says: "Father... Jaina... I have failed... Lordaeron" lasts too long;

- There is no mouse cursor when the choice option appears;

- It's a bit harder to click on the Cloak of Airflow because the treasure is put very close to the ranger unit that had dropped it;

- During the first cinematic with Sylvanas in the third chaper, the worker said "workers" instead of "builders" as it's written in the dialogue;

- Barracks and Elven House buildings have no collision, they can be built anywhere on the map;

- The Discharged tower cannot be upgraded to Guard Tower, Arcane Tower or Cannon Tower as the description of this building says. Instead, it can be upgraded to a Sky-Fury Tower, Earth-Fury Tower and Magic Tower;

- Alomir says "Silvermoom" instead of "Silvermoon";

- If I move Kotromontir away from the Legion troops and the treasure, he disappears, so I was forced to restart the chapter;

- Farm of Pigs (and other orcish clans' classic Pig Farm building), Black Dragon Roost and Ogre Tower buildings have no collision, thus they are buildable anywhere on the map. Also, the description of Pig Farm is missing. The Blackrock Clan version of Pig Farm building looks very weird, as it's bigger than it should've been. It's texture is covering more space on the ground than the green circle;

- The undead and orc heroes do normal attack damage, while my heroes (Jubei'Thos and Khanzo when I choose their faction) have a hero attack type. When I choose some other Blackrock faction, even the AI Jubei'Thos receives the normal attack type;

- The interface on the command card of the Altar of Memory building is displayed as if the building is being built on the map every time I click on this building and it doesn't end;

- Master and Defender (units that belong to the orange player) are both categorized as Tauren;

- The description of Sticky Web upgrade has a word "groynd" instead of "ground";

- In my opinion, Demon of the Abyss is being trained faster than it was supposed to be trained such a strong unit, as oppose to Abomination of the Elements for example;

- When I select the undead faction during the Blackrock & Roll, Too chapter, the map restarts and the vanilla map loading occurs. Also, the undead faction has nothing new, neither Arthas has any items from previous chapters. Also, the custom orcish music remained and so did the orcish voice when certain researches are complete;

- Fel Guard spawned by Seal of Fel spell has a timed life on russian language;

- After the unit receives the Berserk upgrade, it loses the weapons and armor upgrade because it refers to the regular orcish weapon / armor upgrades;

- Small Golem is not a mechanical unit;

- The name of Brilliance Aura that belongs to Illusion of Archmage is written on russian;

- The description of Hatred ability has a word "nerby" instead of "nearby".

Again, great work with this campaign! I've had a great fun playing it. I'm really looking forward to the orc reversed campaign!

Okay, I've started my playthrough. Here are my thoughts so far.

01
I personally don't like the design of these reversed no-build maps where we control dispersed groups of creeps, but we can't even send them to one location because of invisible barriers. It was more frustrating than fun in this map. First I tried to kill the acolytes the moment they were exposed, but sometimes they moved passed the area and I couldn't touch them. Then I focused on Arthas and his units, but he simply moved throughout the map and my units got stuck in their patrolling areas. I think this map would largely benefit from restricting camera bounds to an active area and expanding them with Arthas' progressing.

A cool escape section with the captain though.

02
And this map I really enjoyed. Simple but cool Silver Hand techtree, I spent some time slowly expanding and clearing the map before I crashed Arthas' pathetic army of ghouls and meat wagons with a legion of knights. Minor complaints:
  • Sometimes the allied hero (the teal one) doesn't recycle his position after repelling an attack, so he stays alone and vulnerable outside his base.
  • I think some time into the game Arthas stopped reviving. Once I assaulted his base, he wasn't there and the Altar was idle.
  • In the bossfight there's very little time to familiarize with Uther's abilities. A simple hint that he can self-heal with Holy Light could be nice.

03 (only started)
And I thought I won't ever hear the Witcher music in WC3 besides my own campaign... But I must say, Toussaint music suits the elves surprisingly well.

EDIT: Okay, finished, but I couldn't complete any secondary objectives. Stolen component mechanisms were nowhere to be found while the second objective (probably connected with those void rifts) never showed up.

This is funny, haven't you looked at the map? There is a mark on the map where everything is

I have a problem in "Blackrock & Roll, Too!" After setting up a small defense and completing the mission to summon the demons (after doing a Save game since I had to step away for a few minutes and create a save), continuing from there, any of my troops can't reach the undead base - Whenever they get close, the game simply crashes, and there is nothing I can do to progress in the game.

Looks like a reforged bug
