Now that's something I wasn't expecting. Really nice move! Specially because of vJass support, and this: "Ambient sound has been returned to ambience" - Not many people even cared about it, but it makes a difference for me.

EDIT: It's not mentioned in the official change log, but they added the other missing native for unit ability mana cost, which is nice! GJ.

JASS:
native BlzSetUnitAbilityManaCost takes unit whichUnit, integer abilId, integer level, integer manaCost returns nothing

Hive: We're going to make our own editor with Hookers and Coke/Jass and VJass.
Blizz: Nope, Hold my beer.

I think the issue is that regular editor is still way slow and lacks a lot of core functionality (for now) though, for example, the ability to create custom folders for races, custom folders for imports, being able to drag and drop units to different folders (once they implement them), etc.

A lot of quality of life changes that could streamline editing a lot.

They actually did it. And many years later at that. It's like the treatment that they gave StarCraft, but more tailored to the Wc3 community needs. Even to the point of using 3rd party resources made by the community. Little nuts considering that I can't think of another large game company use 3rd party tools from their community as legit extensions. To me this is more ambitious than what they did with brood war and that Blizzard actually know how to handle these kinds of updates with satisfying the community.

Kudos Blizzard!

Actually it happened with other companies as well.
Gothic 3 had a major bug fix and overall enhancement all made by the community and endorsed by the game's publisher.
Heroes of Might and Magic V included the random map generator made by the community for one of the game's expansions but they pretty much just took the community made program and did not do anything to improve it further.

I'm along with Darklycan51 about the editor functionality. There would be so much ease if some quality of life changes were made and the editor capacity overall improved, for example what Darklycan51 said and these:
1. Ability to change units/abilities/objects race and categories by dragging and dropping it in the Object Editor.
2. Ability to create custom folders and sub-categories in the Object Editor.
3. Ability to remove and delete multiple selected objects at once in the Object Editor.
4. Ability to streamline values in the Object Editor on selected objects (for example selecting the entire human race, and changing value of "Hit Points" would change it for all selected objects (Human Race))

5. Option to set default menu settings to pop-up menus (it is really tiresome to always select Abilities by clicking on the data field -> Custom -> Scroll) - would be useful if one could select it to always open up the Custom Abilities first.
6. Replace data values to a desired values (for example changing the regeneration rate "0.00" to "0.50" on all objects/objects selected) (also make this able to be used on ability field).
7. Option to see/edit Game Constant via Object Editor - at least armor tables etc.
8. Ability to rename units directly from the tree-view on the left, without opening its data.
9. Ability to sort objects in the Object Editor by rawIdCodes/Alphabetical Order/Race etc.

Mechanic Functionality Improvements:
1. Create a field that allows users to copy/paste objects and force the pasted objects to the height values they were copied from (if you levitate object up and copy it, the height gets reset)
2. Allow users to place objects using the same pathing on top of each other (not just to overlap each other partly, like what happens if you hold down Shift)
3. Allow users to rename/recreate locust ability (and other "god abilities) - if possible.
4. Ability to "jump to" selected object data (for example you could jump from Ability to the specific buff it uses by selecting the "Buffs Used" field and right-clicking and "Jump to Data")
5. Request: Please fix the data values of Envenomed Spears to proper ones (Attack Speed slow and Movement Speed Slow fields are messed up and names are mixed up)
6. Ability to hide visual icon buff from specific abilities/buffs (and ability to add and remove specific buffs at will via triggers).
7. Ability to rotate/scale objects around a set point (rotating a fence around its end, rather than its origin - at least if the object does not have a pathing value).
8. Option to turn off selection circle and health/mana bars on specific unit type / specific unit (rather than doing some tricky magic by using negative selection sizes etc.)

Woah! Quite a lot of changes. Expectations were towards more editor and less balance, though we can all appreciate the huge fixed bug list. :p

Most of the melee changes I can agree with, including night elf upgrades researched by default, buff Mana Shield, nerf Brilliance Aura, nerf orb of corruption, and I even proposed one such reduction to Blademaster agility.

Only the change to bat riders makes me uneasy. I reckon they'll make large team games more cancerous. As they were, it was already hard enough to stop a flock of them from overrunning everybody's base. Players were frequently harassed to choose forfeiting their base, or teleporting back and risking their team lose a fight elsewhere.

One thing I feel could use a small nerf is the frost effect, as applied by the nerubian tower's attack, Lich's Frost Nova, hitting a Frost Armor, and frost wyrm attack, or at least the latter. Always felt the MS and AS slows were slightly too high.

Keep up the good work (@Kam and classic team ;))
And if you ever find it possible to enable more than 16 ground tiles, PLEASE DO! :cute:

Woahhhhhhhh, some of these changes are jaw dropping. Tauren totem with spirit walkers is a crazy change.

definitely. can't wait to see people try some tauren strats. I think they'll still suck, but hey it'll be fun as hell to watch!

This will give birth to new tactics in melee. Very interesting changes with Acolytes, Meat Wagons, orcs, etc..

yeah, I'm definitely curious about the fallout. Some changes feel a bit drastic tho. I like the buffs to unused units, but there isn't much guarantee that those units will make it into the meta. I'm more worried about the nerfs to the units who were core to the meta (e.g. destroyer)

but it is only PTR. :) So I'm excited to see how it plays out, and hopefully ppl will point out the kinks and imbalances over time.

so like, I can open the normal editor now and shove vJass code in and it gets transpiled for me autoamtically? I didnt believe they would do this, but they went ahead and did it

yep. or at least, that is the intent. I haven't verified it just yet, but that is definitely the goal of the change. I also didn't believe they would do it, but it is awesome that they did! The patches have been a bit of a pain for all modders--juggling WEX versions and whatnot. Hope this increases the patch adoption!

I think that taurens are still Tier 3 but building the Tauren Totem at Tier 2 is a neat thing. So if you intend to switch to taurens or add on to the army you don't have to worry about building it once you go Fortress.

I honestly like that trolls got some attention, we may see more of them in future strats. Whereas Acolytes got pimped and i doubt it will be worth it for the Blademaster, maybe only when the Undead is teching so he can not reproduce them but it seems a waste of time to kill them now ( just guessing ).

Yes! BlzSetItemExtendedTooltip seemingly got fixed! So awesome!

Being able to edit the name/tooltips of individual items is pretty cool.

However, I've lost some functionality with that change:

My map has been updating item tooltips in shops (because the natives affected all items of the same ID previously). Since we're able to programmatically create items now, it seems like a kink in workflow to have to go create an item in the object editor any time you want to sell it in a shop (and then have to update the shop item whenever you change the item in your code etc...).

There might be some hacky solution to simulate shops but I haven't thought of an elegant one yet.

Anyway, I'm so happy that it works now that I don't even really care.

edit: it's pretty easy to just make a shop system from abilities. whatever, it's not really an issue

Hasn't anyone noticed that audio driver is changed from Emulated Miles into FMOD?
So, what's the difference?

ooh, that is interesting.

I'm not sure about the difference, but I know Miles had a vulnerability that allowed you to inject custom dll's as *.mix files to run in wc3. That might be why they switched. Plus fmod is modern and well-maintained, whereas Miles isn't.

Finally campaign movies can be watched on Win 10. But subtitle font size is too large! (My wc3 language is Simplified Chinese)

It reads
  • [World Editor] Renaming an Item no longer changes all Items’ names

My Engrish no good, but that say item name, that no say item item description

Anyways, it would be great if they really have fixed
Code:
native BlzSetItemExtendedTooltip takes item whichItem, string name returns nothing
.

My Diablo2-like item system awaits this fix for months.

They fixed it - I tested it earlier.

Some noticeable bugs regarding gameplay:
- DaybreakRooster and DuskWolf sound effects are being played at 100% volume regardless of what you defined in your war3 sound settings.
- I was watching a stream earlier, and a peon which was queued to build a Watch Tower got its tower "phantom texture" stuck for a while. The streamer didn't see exactly how that texture disappeared, but he mentioned that the peon died a few minutes later.

The button works, but it's misplaced.

What's that ability/button exactly?
Yeah, I've found that, too.

The ability button is Earth Spirit(the shown hero)'s Aghanim Scepter Skill, called "Petrify". Patch 1.29 has bug relating to UnitAddAbility(), bringing bug to this ability.

Following link is where you can find what I reported 2 months ago about the bug.

Awesome, thanks for that information.

wasnt the way to get past 8mb limit made by loading .mix file as dll with the function that loads maps from disk overwritten?

There's already built-in JassHelper, why do you still need common.j? I don't see a reason for that.

Its nice to see common.j and also diff it with the old version one to see all the changes, sometimes changelogs can forget a thing or two, but code never lies, lets say an argument changed its type or number of parameters for functions but they forgot to note it down, your map suddenly doesnt even load and who knows why

One is not 16 years old? They likely needed to do this to fix ambient sounds which were disabled due to compatibility problems with modern Mac.

As this API is modern this may have other advantages. I suggest people test out what sound formats Warcraft III supports play back of. It might have fixed the mp3 playback difficulties. It may also have added support for new audio formats.
Since the game data isn't organized in MPQ anymore, how can I get the newest common.j?
Use CASC viewer. It is made by the same people as MPQEdit. It has a bug with some StarCraft II mods, (possibly file path is too long) however it works perfectly otherwise. This is the same tool used to extract assets from WoW, SC2, HS, D3, OW and HotS (SC as well?).
