THIS MAP NEEDS REFORGED HD GRAPHICS

WARLORDS REFORGED HD

I got permission from Captain Griffen to make an HD remake for his old map "Warlords Gamma Test 7" and I have some progress after some months remaking it from scratch.

Overview

Lore

Factions

How to Play

Take all Control Points and defeat all enemies to win

Warlords: Defeat all other Warlords and coordinate with the Regional Defenders to defeat the Barbarians to win

Defenders: Defeat the Barbarians however you can

Barbarians: Kill everyone else

Years of wars have left the Kingdom of Lyonnes into a state of disarray with the Eastern Province being overwhelmed with crop failures due to sudden blight, political chaos, and citizens' dissatisfaction with Barbarians at the border ready to invade. While three warlords are in struggle to achieve total control of the East Lyonnes Province, the Kingdom's Regional Defenders are dispatched to eliminate the imminent threat.

WARLORDS:
  • Royal Warlord
    • Starts in The Uptown Region
    • Hero: Victor Zioow
    • Features: Durable units, and hero can further boost their tankiness and as well as his
  • Elven Warlord
    • Starts in the Franbel Weald Region
    • Hero: Vindorei
    • Features: Mystical units that take reduced Piercing and Magic damage and damage from Spells
  • The People's Warlord
    • Starts in the Glenfield Region
    • Hero: Rushy the Blademaster
    • Features: Cheap and quick units, and as well as spellcasters and the hero having good area presence
Regional Defenders:
  • Starts in the Valeyant Pass, but if it falls - the player can still continue to play with the Border hall at the center-left of the map as a second chance to bounce back against the Barbarians
  • Hero: Darious, the Great Defender
  • Features: Durable units, and the hero has also good area presence with healing abilities
  • NOTE: You cannot take Control Points; nor you can take off a Warlord's control from it
Barbarians:
  • Starts in the Tamplier Desert; while the base is strong enough, it is your one and only chance.
  • Barbarian Lord
    • Hero: Fugrim Fireaxe
    • Features: Strong units with good combat stats
  • Barbarian Mystics
    • Hero: The Zoomy Man, the Barbarian Vizier
    • Features: Powerful spells, teleportation with Agents, and a cryptic ultimate
  • NOTE: You cannot take Control Points; but you can take off a Warlord's control from it; Victory conditions also include to make all Control Points neutral

Control Points
  • Warlords can capture Control points by simply standing near them for a few seconds provided there are no enemies nearby
  • Control Points are invulnerable buildings that can train units (unit type depends on each), and also heal nearby wounded enemies.
  • Warlords can get bonus income per captured Control Point
  • Each Control Point also has some lore tidbits
Income and Upkeep
  • Income = Base Income + Control Point Income - Unit Upkeep - Corruption
  • Buying certain units will increase Upkeep until the unit dies
  • Barbarians can get permanent bonus income per turn, while it is small - it will continue to ramp up as time goes by
Corruption
  • Corruption will appear and will grow larger the more gold you currently have
    • That means you can only have up to a certain amount of units per income turn
    • You will need to manage your upkeep and corruption at the same time
  • Defenders will have half corruption rate
Politics and Diplomacy
  • The Regional Defenders starts as Neutral to the Warlords (cannot heal or be healed, and buff or receive buffs). The victorious Warlord will automatically be Allied to the Regional Defenders (if they are still standing)
    • Warlords can request to be Allied with the Regional Defenders early on (for certain conditions like helping the Defenders against the Barbarians)
  • The Defenders can also declare a Warlord to be an enemy (on certain cases if a Warlord would be griefing against the Defenders)
Warlord vs. Warlord Only
  • Just simply close the Defenders and Barbarians slots !

Estimated Progress so far:

  • Terraining: 90%
  • Designing and Polishing: 80%
  • Units: 10%
  • Triggers: 0%

Some additional Notes:

Captain Griffen said:
Warlords is a Layers 0f Destiny production, made by Captain Griffen, one of the founding members of the L0D clan. The map uses ideas from previous map, and in essence is a cut down and speeded up version of a map called Royal Empires, which unfortunately never reached fruition.

Looking decent so far! Some notes from what I can tell from just the screenshots:

-In the first screenshot the southern opening seems lack any sort of 'end-cap' which looks a little jarring.
-I really like how clear 'wilderness' vs 'civilization' is! You can clearly tell which areas of territory likely belong to a player and which areas are contested.
-One of the wall towers in the fourth screenshot is noticeably marred by poor lighting, this might just be an engine error but its particularly distracting from the rest of the wall.
-In the sixth screenshot there is quite alot of trees haphazardly lopped upon the northern side of a quaint little town. It seems to me that some players may appreciate more visual indication if this woods is meant to be passable or impassable by opening up a few more paths betwixt the trees in the case of the former or by adding a few rocks or rugged tiles in the latter.
-Alot of parts of the roads look particularly straight, and while the reforged tiles are pretty I would recommend roughing them up with some grass tiles and making them a bit more 'windy'

Overall I'll be watching this one intently! I am a big fan of spawn-based strategy maps and looking forward to what you might do to further define your own niche within the genre. Given enough creativity and care I'm sure you will make this special!

Keep up the good work!

that town is called "East Glade" or something (not in the mood to open WE right now, I'm currently sick and needing to rest); and yeah the design's slightly intentional as it's a meadow - wide area of grass

btw the original map also didn't have tree concentrations like almost each tree (other than the sides) were separated and I'm also still thinking if I do the same
-In the first screenshot the southern opening seems lack any sort of 'end-cap' which looks a little jarring.
Ah, that HD wall model is a hidden model within the game files and yeah there's no end cap model so far; I'll try to find suitable ones for the wall - else I'll just go the statue route like in the Crusader's Square
