Hey all!

I'm playing Warcraft 3: ROC once more again and I'm wondering if the difficulty level was the same years ago.
I can assume, that i'm better at it than ~15-18 years ago (more exp, i'm not a kid anymore), but! there are some significant differences.
In mission 5 in human's campain two (green and purple) Liches are attacking only at 2-3 mins before Uther's arrival.
I remember that these undead heroes were attacking multiple times, much earlier, what is the mission was much harder.

There is one more really visible difference - in the last humans mission - frosmourne Malganis' troops are barely attacking, even without using frost wyrms or gargoyles.
I'm 100% sure, that many years ago base defence was REALLY TOUGH - enemy was using frost wyms and gargoyles etc.

So where is the truth? I don't remember correctly? Or there were some changes in diff lvl? I checked patches 1.26, 1.27 and sth around 1.16.
Does anyone know that's going on here?

If you are playing on reforged graphics, then that may be the case. I personally never bothered to play the campaign on reforged but I heard the reign of chaos missions are a lot easier.
Also, are you playing on Normal or Hard?

I personally can recommend playing the (reign of chaos) campaigns on older patches, the older the better.

Patch 1.33 (previous patch) apparently has a significant changes in terms of campaign AIs, depending on the difficulty levels you were playing. This only happens if you are playing the campaign on Reforged graphics. You might want to check out this thread below:

But sadly, those campaign-related changes were reverted when Patch 1.36.1 came out. You can't even play the SP campaigns on Hard Mode, either, with 1.36.1.

As raypack suggested, playing on older patches of the legacy versions of WC3 is the best way for vanilla ROC/TFT campaigns.

I'm not playing on Reforged.
@raypack - Hard mode.
"I checked patches 1.26, 1.27 and sth around 1.16."
It's kind of strange..
Thank you for answers!
Currently, the single player campaign on the latest version is broken and destroyed.
Older versions are better.
For the record, there's a dedicated thread already by Blizzard about the vanilla campaign-related bugs (including scripting changes), which can be found here (it was recorded with the 1.31, but you might encounter some of those on other versions). The later versions of WC3, specifically 1.31 and the ones closer to the release of the 1.32, were full of bugs that the Blizzard team didn't fix because they were rushing to get Reforged out on the release date. So, it is fair enough to assume issues people in-game are because they are using the later versions of WC3, which still have quite a great many bugs that are still there and remain unfixed. 1.32+ completely messed up everything, as you are forced to play vanilla campaigns with all of the TFT stats.

However, as far as I can tell, using an outdated versions of the game is the safest way for playing vanilla campaigns. At all. Also, ROC campaigns will have the correct stats. If you have a physical copy of both ROC and TFT, you can install both games and remain unpatched. The only problem is that you can't play custom campaigns and maps that are made exclusively with later patches, as did Acts 2 and 3 from the "Founding of Durotar" campaign.
