W3A2: Path of the Kaldorei HD

With permission from and in consultation with Xetanth87:
Reforged HD upgrade of the great Pathof the Kaldorei originally made by Xetanth87. Now with working lip animations in portraits, updated HD models, new units and much more.


TIP: USE PORTAITS IN CINEMATICS
The mod is not adapted for the non portrait version of cinematics.

Another tip is to try out the quenching mod!

Q: Can I still play the SD version?
A: No, this version is only for HD. Please seek out the Xetanth87 original version for SD.

Q: When will The Colonization of Kalimdor and future HD upgrades release?
A: There are currently no plans for further upgrades. If there is interest and people are willing to help with the HD upgrade, then please let me know and contact me!

Played on 12-03-2025 version, Hard difficulty

(I once played the original by Xetanth87, but I don't remember all the details, so I'll write my notes here about the campaign in general.)
The difficulty is the same as in the vanilla undead campaign.

The first mission - the moment with the sheep was funny. And the player-controlled ent is actually something I have never seen in similar "baseless" missions.
And I have just noticed that even the quest descriptions in this series are changed too to match adaptation.
Also, interesting synergy between Moon Wells and Archers – you can use Arcane Arrows for defense.
In the last mission, due to time pressure, I never figured out how to get into the water to get the attribute tomes. But overall, this mission is fun, although it seemed difficult at first.

I noted a few things that may be oversights:
Ancient Ravager cannot attack air;
Corpse Golem (level 6) and Meat Golem (level 2) have the portrait of a regular golem, unlike Flesh Golem (level 9);
Naturalists are able to root Forsaken Catapults.

Will fix the Golem portraits, Ravager is intended not to hit air(from what I know).
How did you feel about the new unit additions and HD upgrade?

I almost always like an additions, but to say something sensible I need to rewind Xetanth87's campaing walkthough. And I plan to do it soon and will give feedback here when I finish.

ADDITIONAL NECESSARY INFORMATION
  • A credits list in the map thread description is required where the names of the resource (models, skins, icons, spells, sound etc.) authors are mentioned along with the specific resource. It would be a luxury to have links leading to the used resources. Credits in the Quest Log would be appreciated too.
  • A detailed changelog in the first post would be helpful to reviewers and notify fans about the newest implementations to your map.
  • Map thread tags are important. Please use those that fit and not more or none.

How did you feel about the new unit additions and HD upgrade?
The Ravager model feels too large - in the first mission, it even overlaps with Mal'Ganis's model.
I really liked the Ember Wyrms.

When I played the campaign, the Druids of the Saber felt a bit too weak, though I see they were buffed in a recent patch. I used to build 2 or 3 of them mainly for dispel, but never really used them as combat units. Prowl seems like a powerful ability, but I didn't have the micro to take full advantage of it - I imagine it could be great for hunting down enemy heroes. Overall, totally agree with patch changes.

Naturalists are a good alternative to Archers, especially considering that, despite being trained in the Ancient of Lore, they benefit from Hunter's Hall upgrades. That said, Archers are a bit tankier thanks to their armor, so in the end I used Naturalists more like Human Sorceresses - support casters rather than frontliners.

I would love to see Sylvanas uncapped in terms of level - it would be really interesting to see what her ultimate looks like.
