This Model has been ported from World of Warcraft. It features Varimathras (updated Legion Model) which is the eighth or ninth boss in Antorus the Burning Throne Raid.

"As one the dreadlords overseeing the Legion's forces during the Third War, Varimathras failed to stop the rebellious Lich King. He submitted to an ill-fated alliance with Sylvanas Windrunner, then made one last bid for power before facing a humiliating defeat. In payment for his blunders, Varimathras has been tortured by the Coven of Shivarra. The vindictive sisters stripped away both flesh and sanity, leaving only a singular desire to inflict suffering upon the mortals who cost him everything."

Y'know, for the longest time I thought Varimathras working with Slyvie and fake-killing his brother was all a part of a long con to trick her and usurp power from her, and the rest of the Legion were in on it. But from how bad the Legion fucked him up when he got home I guess his betrayal of Slyvanas was a last-minute impulse thing and he really did betray the Legion. Such a shame he always got bounced from one bad situation to another.

I think its that legion knew about him plannign to usurp sylvannas and fake killing his brother, but he got tortured by the coven of the shivarra on argus Because he failed during the battle of undercity(where could hear whats presumblly sargeras).
And he just got tortured for failing to take and keep udnercity/forsaken under his control and failed at summonign trets of legion/possibly sargeras(was also when sargeras and titans in general wherent planet sized beings)

Now we know he did all this for one purpose. Even if he was at the wrong side he truly was a person that hold his word to his "friend"

I think that he was tortured not only by his failure but being exposed as Jailor's/Sire Denatrius's agent - probably other dreadlords spoiled him to gain favor/cover/showcase their demonic "loyalty".

Maybe but not likely.
He failed and was punished for that. And the other agent went "all out" to make sure their cover was not blown.
Nothing tells us that Sargeras knew that he was manipulated into using Ner'zhul aka lich king.
All we know is that it was adviced by the Nathrezim, there among Varimathras, to use the undead.
That failed, but all was just a part of the plan planted by the Jailer.
