Chosen of Shar (Shadow Heart)

This bundle is marked as high quality. It exceeds standards and is highly desirable.
>> 2. End her words with the Spear of Night

The texture isn't that great but I've never claimed to be good at drawing :p
If someone draws a better one, I'll happily replace it.

The parameters are:
  • Damage point 0.400
  • Cast point 0.400
  • Death time 3.0
  • run/walk animation speed 300
When you import the texture, change the name/path to: Textures/ShadoFace.blp

You can use this model however you want, or steal the animations, as long as you give credit or link to this model.

If you want some of her spells:
Spiritual Weapon
Spirit Guardians

I might add crit and channel animations, but don't hold your breath.

Thanks to:
Salamalajka for feedback
Maxwell for feedback
Villagerino for feedback
Tillinghast for... something, probably.

18/3/25
replaced her with the Complete version:
  • Animated the dangling parts of her skirt
  • altered her skirt for fewer segments
  • Created a new arse for her
    • updated the texture of said arse
  • Changed the texture of her torso; looks less like BG3, but better overall.
  • much improved normals and lighting
  • adjusted some proportions, like arm lengths.
  • made the spear larger, shield smaller
  • Added teeth
  • Smoothed out some stand animations
  • changed footwork of Attack 1 to be less awkward looking.

She looks quite nice, and the face texture somewhat feels fitting. Works in-game. Approved!

Do you plan adding selunite ver?
No, because that would be cringe heresy :)

Do you mean Stand or Stand Ready? Stand Ready used to be slower but it wouldn't cycle between attacks so I sped it up a bit. If you use lvl 1 Paladin as a baseline, it cycles pretty well now. Basic Stand... I dunno I thought some elements might be exaggerated, but in game it looks fine imo. I think in general I tend to undersell or not exaggerate things enough so maybe I over compensated.
What I might do is lengthen it by ~0.2 seconds and smooth the start/end transition so it's less obvious when it loops.

ED: if we want to get very obsessive, there's a significant difference between how the faces look with different normals calculated by the different programs.

I'm starting to think the Retera one looks better.

stand ready, yeah retera is definitely better, also skirt is static

I've been trying to emulate the BG3 animations at least a bit:
And that is admirable!

But you see, I want to say that the senior animator of Larian (he was junior when DOS2 was released) did impractical yet astonishing animation for combat. Although some stand ready animations annoy me cos how silly they look.

But that's only my tastes.

I think their idiosyncratic animations are half the characterisation.

When I think of Minthara, I see that squatting dual-wield mace pose (or her inquiring about the Mah-Sah-Kah).
Lae'zel would be the weird two-handed sword poses of githyanki (that I tried to capture) or possibly her describing tentacles bursting from your jaw.
Shadowheart, the arse bobbing during combat to the beat of the music, her anxious body language in the select or lvl-up screen*, or the sarcastic facial expressions.
Gale would be the hand gestures he makes when casting something. Besides that, there's barely anything memorable about him except maybe the ridiculous backstory.
The iconic things about karlach, to me, are popping rage, the rage idle animations, or picking people up and throwing them at other people for the lols.
I thought it was a shame you didn't try to capture her rage posture and animations more.

Skill issues Priest.

I'm talking about Shadowheart, which misses with a 90 percent probability (SEVEN TIMES IN A ROW!), loses concentration from a simple mosquito bite, stupid jokes, and it feels like ALL HER characteristics are 8!
8 Strength, 8 Dexterity, 8 Endurance, Wisdom, Intelligence and Charisma.

If you want to play as an absolute loser with eternal ones in rolls (even with an advantage) - play as Shadowheart in solo.

I really love this. Having two variations is awesome and it's cool to have such an iconic character depicted in Warcraft III!

My only note would be if there could potentially be the inclusion of the Shar-Circlet on her brow in the portrait? I was trying to puzzle out why it didn't immediately look like Shadowheart at a glance and i'm thinking that might be it.

Great work as always!

So I updated this; The flappy bits actually sway now. It's the Sexy Flanders edition.

It looks less like the source than it did before (reduced the skirt somewhat, changed some other textures) but should be an improvement on all fronts otherwise. I'm calling it 'complete' now, so removed Beta from the title. The walk is a lot better.

It's plenty doable, she picks up steam in act 2. I think I did everything in Act 1 besides the creche, and can't remember ever cheesing anything with barrels. Maybe I didn't kill the spider...
My god, those harpies were brutal though. I think they're straight up OP but I died like 20+ times to that, often on the first or second turn.
After going pally with Shar's spear it was a total Massacre, but a lot of that is the bad enemy AI tbh. It would be interesting if Darkness wasn't so broken, and maybe as compensation it didn't need concentration?

***ED: actually from memory I think radiant/Good is supposed to be pretty broken as long as you stack Radiating Orb effects. Unless that got fixed/nerfed like retarded drunken brawler. I was tempted to lean on that.

I would consider doing a Selune version, but I don't know what she would look like. What sort of gear would a Selune Shadow Heart be using?

Hmm, There must be better weapons later on though, right? I never played a good Shart. The only true caster I played was warlock (so more like 3/4 caster? lol), and she used that underlord crit blade and ritual dagger until very late because they buffed her Dolor. My solo shart used wyrmling staff until getting Lathander's.
Lathander's does look the part though.
What about focusing on radiating orb type gear?

  • Shield
    • Could be viconia's, which is what this is supposed to be. But it makes sense story wise she'd steal it...
    • Shield of Devotion is decent, but looks pretty standard.
    • Ketheric shield helps a caster, but looks death knight.
    • Adamatine shield is distinctive, but maybe too weird. It was my got-to on Evil Shart to push lowbies off the hit table.
  • Chest
    • Either breastplate or luminous look basic, but could colour them more goody-goody.
    • I like the adamantine armor, but maybe not fitting for a pally/priestess look.
    • A dress or robe, or improvise something armoured on top, skirty down below.
  • Hat
  • Weap
    • Not a lot of other good options from Lathander's.

I don't see point in cleric engaging in melee, it's not inquisitor so give them crossbow instead or throwables + shield

Perhaps dyeing your hair white is enough)

And so expected someone who would make Wyll with CJ clothes from GTA.

Because even in close combat, she's talentless.

😰.
Besides Guiding Bolt, all the best baseline cleric spells are short range like: Inflict Wounds, Turn Undead, Spiritual Weapon, Spirit Guardians, Glyph of Warding, Fear (if you're standard Shart).
Guardians is an IWin button against lots of encounters (mountain pass undead, Act 2 shadows, Shar temple, you can kill all the gnolls on the map with a single cast) and totally broken if you abuse radiating orbs.
If you aren't using those spells then maybe it's worth rerolling a different class.

And if you're going to sell your soul to Shar for a nifty spear, you may as well use it...
Ok I could make an skin for her
I'm glad you're reconsidering :p

I mean she is a healer, and trickery is more support than anything else, she can autopass a lot of dialogs by simply swapping race and create disadvantage easily with her skills, but yeah Trickery can seem kinda boring but it depends on how you use it. I honestly think she needed something like Darkness/Hunger of Hadar on her base kit to make her more appealing combat-wise.
